Huawei wins new managed services contract, helps to roll out LTE in Portugal

Huawei has won a contract from Switzerland-based operator Sunrise to manage its fixed and mobile networks, including internet and IPTV.

Sunrise, which has three million customers, has given the China-based vendor a five-year contract.

CEO Oliver Steil said he was looking forward to rolling out TQ Net, the company’s new network programme, with its new partner.

For its part Huawei, which will take on an unspecified number of Sunrise staff, promised to significantly improve overall network performance, end-user experience and network quality.

It added it now has over 240 such contracts worldwide.

Over in Portugal, Portugal Telecom is to launch commercial LTE services also using Huawei equipment.

PT is to use Huawei’s SingleRAN solution, which will integrate the operator’s existing GSM networks and new LTE network on a single platform with data speeds of up to 150Mbs.

Thanks to the 800MHz frequency band being freed up last month, PT’s 4G network now covers 80 percent of the country’s population.
