Huawei is to replace KPN’s legacy BSS systems, while the two companies have also completed the world’s first pan-European optical transport network 400G field trial.
The Netherlands-based operator’s business transformation programme will see the China-based vendor replace multiple legacy IT BSS systems.
The deal includes a single next generation converged BSS solution for the retail and wholesale markets in the KPN's home market.
This builds on a relationship that has seen Huawei deliver an international hosted MVNE platform and replace Germany-based E-Plus’ BSS system in the last couple of years.
Meanwhile, the OTN-based 400G trial was tested on “one of the busiest links” of KPN International’s pan-European WDM backbone network.
The companies said the results confirmed laboratory testing and were “highly promising”.
KPN is looking to invest in next-generation transport technology to support high-bandwidth services in the future.
Huawei added that exponential growth of traffic on the carrier backbone is accelerating the large-scale commercial deployment of 100G and beyond.
