Communications infrastructure company Arqiva has agreed a deal to acquire Wi-Fi operator Spectrum Interactive for the equivalent of €29.2 million.
The UK-based companies have reached an agreement for the transfer of shares and it is hoped that the deal could enable Arqiva to drive its mobile data business interests.
As part of the deal, Spectrum Interactive employees will be transferred to Arqiva, which already boasts more than 2,000 employees. Arqiva's customers include the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five and BSkyB.
Speaking about the deal, Arqiva chief executive officer John Cresswell said: "The acquisition of Spectrum Interactive positions Arqiva as one of the UK's largest Wi-Fi hotspot providers and uniquely we would be the only wholesale provider with no associated retail service.
"We are well placed to help define the Wi-Fi space for all UK landlords and business providers, allowing us to individually tailor services for our customers to meet the growing demand for data capacity."
