A new alliance has been forged between Alcatel-Lucent and American wireless provider Spire Wireless to roll out the US company's 4G LTE mobile broadband network.
Spire has committed the equivalent of €47 million towards the initial stages of the high-speed services in 20 Mississippi markets, which will launch in two month's time.
It is hoped the network will span across 2,700 square miles and cover 360 cell sites, benefiting around 1.2 million people.
Four in 10 businesses as well as consumers in Mississippi will receive the new service, with wireless data speeds predicted to run 10 times quicker than previous services.
The firm is also setting up Alcatel-Lucent's end-to-end 4G LTE solution, which includes features such as base stations and Wireless Packet Core.
Robert Vrij, president of Alcatel-Lucent's Americas region, said: "Many providers are realising that providing connectivity to the network is really just the beginning in terms of the types of innovative services they can offer to subscribers through technologies like LTE. C Spire clearly understands the needs of the market."
