Eircom names new leadership team

The eircom Group has announced two major appointments in the boardroom.

Herb Hribar has been named as the Ireland-based operator's new chief executive officer, while Richard Moat has been appointed group chief financial officer.

They will both take up their positions at eircom Holdco SA and eircom Holdings (Ireland) Ltd in early September.

Eircom Group's chairman, Ned Sullivan, said of the appointments: "Eircom is delighted to have secured the services of two highly experienced and talented industry executives. Herb and Richard join eircom at an exciting time, with a recently restructured balance sheet and reduced debt."

Hribar replaces Paul Donovan, who announced he was stepping down in March.

Donovan oversaw the operator being placed into a form of bankruptcy protection earlier this year and a failed takeover by  Hutchison Whampoa .

A restructuring took place in June, with €1.7 billion of debt taken off the balance sheet.

Hribar has a long track record of working in the TV and telecoms industries in Europe and the US.

He has served as president of Ameritech Wireless, managing director of Kabel Deutschland, and COO of Cablecom in Switzerland.

He also previously served as managing director of networks at eircom in the early 2000s.

Moat has worked within mobile phone firms for 20 years, most recently serving as T-Mobile UK's managing director.

He has also acted as deputy chief executive and chief financial officer of Everything Everywhere.
