Orange UK and Barclaycard are to launch the first Android smartphone compatible with the Quick Tap contactless payments service.
Samsung Galaxy SIII customers will be able to use their handset to make contactless payments of up to £20 in over 100,000 retail outlets from 5 September.
Customers are required to download an app before loading money to a maximum of £150 via any UK MasterCard, Visa, Debit or Credit Card.
“Contactless mobile payments are a secure and convenient alternative to cash and cards and we are pleased to be the first network brand in the UK to offer its customers such an innovative service,” said Simeon Bird, Director of Propositions at Orange UK.
It is the third Quick Tap device the operator has offered its customers.
Orange UK said it complimented the five-year deal Everything Everywhere struck with MasterCard last week as it looks to roll out m-payment solutions.
