Mopet CZ, the joint venture consisting of T-Mobile, Telefónica and Vodafone as well as four major Czech banks, has selected Oberthur Technologies and its subsidiary MoreMagic Solutions as the technology partner for MOBITO, its mobile payment service.
Launched in September, MOBITO offers mobile users across the Czech Republic m-payment services through their existing devices and mobile service providers, regardless of their bank.
Oberthur Technologies said it will leverage the mobile money platform owned by its subsidiary, MoreMagic Solutions, to power the service.
France-based Oberthur acquired MoreMagic Solutions, which is based in the US, in June this year.
By facilitating MOBITO’s m-payment system, MoreMagic is seeking to “enable banks and operators to inter-operate in a trusted manner to deliver real-time services to their customers,” said Pankaj Gulati, its CEO.
It currently partners with 120 mobile operators in 60 countries.
Oberthur’s partnership with Mopet CZ paves the way to the adoption of remote payments, as well as NFC and non-NFC proximity payments, across the Czech Republic.
Mopet CZ said it aims to make MOBITO the standard type of payment on the market.
Its shareholders represent almost 60 percent of the retail banking market and 100 percent of the mobile phone market.
MOBITO’s bank partners are Česká spořitelna, GE Money Bank, Raiffeisenbank and UniCredit Bank.
