Swisscom Mobile upgrades to Portal 7

Adding support for data roaming completes second phase of billing system transformation

Portal Software, the global provider of billing and revenue management solutions for telecommunications and media markets, has announced that Swisscom Mobile has successfully completed its migration to Portal’s flagship Portal 7 platform.

The migration to Portal 7 delivers support for new data roaming offerings and concludes the second phase of a multiphase program to replace Swisscom Mobile’s legacy billing system. By the project’s completion, Portal will also be providing the billing, invoicing, and revenue sharing capabilities for Swisscom Mobile.

Swisscom Mobile is a public limited company with Swisscom Ltd. holding a 75% equity stake and Vodafone Group Plc holding the remaining 25%. Today, the company boasts over 65% market share with 4.3 million customers for its NATEL mobile service and has 400 mobile roaming partners worldwide.  Leveraging the Portal 7 platform, Swisscom has successfully introduced new, profitable data roaming options for its inbound and outbound roaming customers such as Blackberry, Telematics, GPRS/UMTS, PWLAN and content services.

“Swisscom Mobile is steadfast in its belief that the modernization of our billing system is key to sustaining, and growing, our competitive advantage,” said Wolfgang Weber, CTO at Swisscom Mobile. “Portal continues to drive business agility and flexibility into our revenue management infrastructure.”

The move to a proactive and standards-based billing and Revenue Management solution prepares Swisscom for the increasing proliferation of data and content services expected to emerge as its networks continue to modernize. Furthermore, support for data roaming enables Swisscom to deliver a full portfolio of services to its roaming customers offering a true seamless service experience. Portal’s roaming manager delivers maximum flexibility on products and bundles using up-to-date standards, such as TAP3, to rapidly take advantage of global roaming initiatives whilst hiding the complexity of the third-party value chain.

“Swisscom’s ability to bring new data services to market in record time further validates Portal’s platform approach to convergent billing,” said Bhaskar Gorti, SVP, Worldwide Sales, Services, Marketing and Alliances at Portal.  “Today’s service providers demand billing solutions that can short circuit time-to-market and time-to-revenue for new services – this is what we’ve built Portal 7 to deliver upon.”
