Overseas costs for UK customers to drop as Vodafone announces European price cuts of 40%
Vodafone has commited to cut its European roaming prices by 40% – heralding, says the company, further cost benefits for UK customers while travelling in Europe.
The reduction will be based on the average roaming prices from last summer and will be implemented by April 2007 at the latest.
The move is said to build on the introduction of the Vodafone Passport service launched last year. There are already more than 6 million customers across Europe using Vodafone Passport.
"The response to Passport has been fantastic and today we commit to giving our customers more of what they want. Vodafone Passport is already such great value that it offers significantly lower rates than the EU Commission's recent proposals for regulation," says Nick Read, CEO, Vodafone UK.
Customers can register for free to Passport immediately, and it is available on both contract and pay as you talk. Vodafone Passport allows users to pay their UK rates abroad for a one off connection fee of 75p per call. Currently available in 14 European countries, this represents a huge saving, claims Vodafone.
In addition to the easy-to-understand Passport tariff, Vodafone is making pricing as transparent as possible for its customers with a free service where they can simply text the name of the country they will be calling from to 4636 and will receive a return message detailing the charges.
