Telekom Austria Group launches no-frills brand in Austria

Telekom Austria Group has announced the launch of a no-frills brand under the name of bob by its Austrian wireless subsidiary mobilkom austria. The launch follows the introduction of tomato, a prepaid no-frills brand in Croatia in June of this year.

Boris Nemsic, CEO of Telekom Austria and COO Wireless said: “With this brand we plan to cater to customers who only want to make phone calls and use SMS. In future, we will have two brands in the Austrian mobile market: A1 represents a broad product portfolio, sophisticated mobile data solutions and innovation leadership, whereas bob stands for the lowest priced voice call offering in Austria provided by an operator with the country’s best network, but with no extra services.”

Hannes Ametsreiter, Chief Marketing Officer of mobilkom austria added: “The new no-frills brand stands out due to its design and we aim to position it as fresh, brash and high-quality.”

Organized as an independent brand within mobilkom austria, bob builds on the company’s long-standing know-how and relies on resources and infrastructure of mobilkom austria. bob offers the lowest priced calls in Austria using mobilkom austria’s high quality network, however, bob customers will not have access to a comprehensive product and service portfolio, subsidized mobile phones, loyalty points programme, 3G data services, a toll-free service hotline, dedicated shops and will not receive a paper bill.

bob is a contract product without a monthly fee, but with a minimum spending of 9 EUR and a termination period of just one month. Starter packages that include a SIM card will be available for EUR 14.90. bob offers calls for 7 cents per minute to all networks around-the-clock and SMS for 15 cents. Besides voice calls, roaming and SMS no other services are available.

Customers need a SIM-unlocked mobile telephone and following the purchase of the starter package they can activate their SIM card by calling a dedicated hotline. Customers do not have to pay an activation fee and are given 100 free minutes or SMS to be used within four weeks from activation. In order to continue to use the services, customers need to sign up for monthly direct debit.
