Initiative said to highlight growing relationship between Huawei and Vodafone
Huawei Technologies has announced that it has been selected by the world's largest mobile operator, Vodafone, to deliver and install the radio access part of its WCDMA/3G broadband (HSDPA) network for certain key cities in Spain.
Europe is said to be regarded as one of the leading and most competitive mobile markets in the world, while Spain possesses one of the fastest growing 3G subscriber rates and highest Average Revenue Per User rates for operators. As a result, the marketplace in Spain is characterised by strong competition among global mobile operators as well as suppliers. For Vodafone, a global leader in 3G solutions, Vodafone Spain, with over 1.2 million 3G subscribers, is one of the most important and strongest performing operating companies within the Group.
Prior to becoming an approved supplier, Huawei went through a period of substantial cooperation with the Vodafone Group together with a stringent certification process before being selected by Vodafone to deploy the radio access part of its WCDMA/ 3G broadband (HSDPA) network in Spain.
"Huawei's innovative NodeB solution within the radio access network, fully addresses our requirements for deploying a world-class 3G broadband (HSDPA) network. The NodeB solution also enables us to significantly reduce our operating costs, maximise the benefits offered to customers and improve our competitive position in the marketplace," said Helmut Hoffmann, Director of Global Networks,
"We are delighted to have Huawei as our strategic partner, and view their leading edge technology, professional service capability and in-depth understanding of network evolution as key drivers for our future cooperation," said Detlef Schultz, Director of Global Supply Chain Management.
"We are glad to be a WCDMA / 3G broadband supplier to Vodafone Spain," said William Xu, the President of Huawei Europe. "Spain is a key country in the European mobile communications market and Vodafone is a leading global mobile operator. As a result, the product quality, technology solution and service capability stipulations of our agreement are demanding and stringent. As a strategic partner of Vodafone, Huawei will combine its technological know-how and leading solutions with its customer-driven service capability to strengthen Vodafone's leading market position."
As a worldwide WCDMA/HSDPA supplier, Huawei has secured 30 WCDMA/HSDPA commercial contracts to date. The latest generation of NodeB possesses abundant innovative capabilities including a high efficiency digital power amplifier, a maximum HSDPA performance (14.4Mbps), IP transmission and distributed NodeB. These features fully address customers' needs for improving network quality as well as reducing the cost of network deployment and operations.
