Intec and SenSage to deliver low cost, integrated data retention compliance solution to European telco market

Intec Telecom Systems and SenSage have today announced a reseller agreement in which Intec will actively market, sell and support an Intec and SenSage-based solution which lowers the cost of managing billions of communications records in compliance with the EU Data Retention Directive. The Directive, which supports law enforcement and anti-terrorism initiatives, requires telecommunications and Internet service providers operating within EU member countries to collect, retain and retrieve communication transaction records for up to two years. The Intec Data Retention Solution, powered by SenSage, allows operators to quickly abide by the Directive guidelines at a fraction of the cost of conventional approaches.

"Telcos and ISPs will have to make significant changes to procedure, operations and current technologies if they are to meet the EU Data Retention and Privacy Directives," said Terje Tondel, managing director of ETIS.org - the largest global IT association for telecommunication providers. "Our constituents have been advised to assess current resources and seek innovative solutions which can minimise costs and expedite results that address these guidelines."

The millions of call, access and messaging transactions that occur each day results in billions of records and terabytes of event data that service providers must appropriately manage and rapidly analyse. The Intec Data Retention Solution integrates Intec's market leading convergent mediation system (previously benchmarked to handle over 12.8 billion events a day) for the collection, processing and management of CDRs, with the scalable event data compression, management and high-speed correlation platform from SenSage. The Intec Data Retention Solution achieves efficient data retention and analysis by leveraging general-purpose hardware and managed storage systems such as EMC Centera.

The Intec Data Retention Solution has been fully tested and can be predictably expanded to meet varying Telco telephony, IP and messaging sources, data volumes and implementation requirements at the lowest possible cost of ownership. Earlier this month the companies announced completion of a joint Proof-of-Concept which demonstrated the ability to cost effectively manage and obtain results in minutes from over 100 billion Call Detail Records (CDRs).

The EU Directive requires telecommunications operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to securely retain and be able to analyse traffic and location data related to: fixed telephony; mobile telephony; Internet access; Internet e-mail; and Internet telephony for up to two years in a segmented and secure data management infrastructure. The Directive also requires that all service providers must produce answers to law enforcement inquiries without any undue delay. Service providers must be compliant by September 2007.

"We are excited to partner with SenSage and to bring an innovative compliance product to market," said Peter Deane, Managing Director of Intec's EMEA operation. "This solution delivers material cost savings, manageability and scale which best serves our telecommunications customers' interest to adhere with the Directive while lowering operational expenditures."

"Intec is a recognised and trusted leader in providing switch remediation and telecommunications infrastructure solutions and we welcome this strategic partnership," said Frank Bien, vice president of business development at SenSage. "Combining SenSage's scalable event data management platform with Intec CDR mediation solutions and expertise offers a compelling means for providers to quickly comply with the Directive at minimal cost and impact to their production systems."
