FASTWEB chooses Italtel to manage the advanced services of its multiservice IP network

Italtel is awarded the contract for the Service Assurance project developed for FASTWEB – analysis, development and testing activities are already underway.

Italtel, a leading company in voice/data/video integration for the development of next generation TLC networks, has won the contract with FASTWEB – the major alternative Italian operator for Broadband telecommunications services – for development of the control and management project for its own network infrastructure. The ‘Service Assurance’ system to be provided by Italtel will enable FASTWEB to manage network growth following the substantial expansion of xDSL domain users and increases in traffic volumes.

The project stems from FASTWEB’s requirement to consolidate current platforms that manage and control the performance of the network and of services offered to residential and business users. The system proposed by Italtel guarantees the transition from a territorial or domain-based system to a centralised, functional and service-based system, with the primary objective of facilitating the identification of infrastructure problems.

The solution proposed by Italtel was developed by taking advantage of the expertise attained by ONE-ANS – company of the Italtel group and leader in system integration – throughout the years, directly with its client FASTWEB. The system is based on customised market and software platforms able to integrate completely with the various components of the solution. The strengths of the ‘Service Assurance’ system developed by Italtel are summarised as follows:• Complete integration of the various technological domains, IP and xDSL, and the relative applications of other Providers• Integrated management of performance data acquired via multiple IT interfaces, automatically and in real time • Improvement in the alarm identification capacity – Fault Monitoring • Implementation of a troubleshooting activity aimed at identifying the causes of the malfunction

“Today’s Service Providers have to manage communications networks that are increasingly complex, technologically evolved and sophisticated, in terms of quantity and quality of services offered. In particular, FASTWEB, one of the leading broadband providers in Europe, - underlines Vittorio Moscatelli, head of the Other Providers (Altri Operatori) market at Italtel - requires cost-effective, efficient and timely management of its highly technological multimedia network, able to provide IP and DSL services to an extensive number of users.”

In fact, Italtel’s response to the requirements of FASTWEB could be nothing short of a complete Network Management solution able to integrate and optimise the management of network infrastructure and customer care services. In addition, the capacity to produce reports according to operating requirements makes the solution extremely flexible in generating both resource-facing reports, used especially for detailed monitoring related to the management of Trouble Shooting and Capacity Planning problems, as well as customer-facing reports, used mostly for quality control of end-user services.

“Together with One-Ans, we will work alongside FASTWEB as consultants and partners, – says Moscatelli – in the same way that we have always worked with our clients.  Because Italtel not only designs and develops advanced communications networks on site, but it also collaborates with network providers to develop customised business management and support systems, from intelligent control of infrastructures to business intelligence and customer management solutions, providing an increasingly fast response to the needs of network subscribers.”
