SMC Networks launches new 24-port 10/100/1000 managed power over Ethernet switch
SMC Networks today announced the launch of the TigerSwitch 10/100/1000 (SMC8126PL2-F), a managed 24 port Layer 2 full-power Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch that enables businesses to roll out IP phones, surveillance cameras and other IP devices - without the expense of installing extra power cables.
Said to be ideal for banks, branch offices and the hospitality sector, the SMC8126PL2-F supports Full-Power IEEE 802.3af PoE on all RJ-45 ports, delivering 15.4 Watts of power over CAT 5 cables to distances of up to 100 meters. With a total of 26 Gigabit ports and 52Gbps switching capacity, the SMC8126PL2-F also delivers wire-speed switching performance on all Gigabit ports, allowing users to take full advantage of their high-performance Gigabit integrated servers, PCs and laptops by significantly improving the responsiveness of applications and file transfer times.
For the most bandwidth intensive networks that require advanced switching features, 4 egress queues per port are included to enable differentiated management of up to 4 traffic types and ensure smooth transmission of mission critical data. Traffic is prioritised according to 802.1p and DSCP, giving optimal performance to real-time applications such as voice and video.
Frank Emmerlich, Product Marketing Manager Europe & Africa for SMC Networks commented: "The SMC8126PL2-F is the perfect solution for customers that want the flexibility and cost savings that Power over Ethernet provides but without any compromise on power or performance. It is a cost effective, secure and fully featured switch that integrates easily into any network environment."
Making it easy for network administrators to link each port with their fibre or copper cable network and expand the network over long distances, the 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports on the SMC8126PL2-F include four combo ports that are shared with four SFP transceiver slots and two additional SFP slots. The SMC8126PL2-F also comes installed with IP clustering software that enables grouping together of up to 32 other switches in the SMC6100 and SMC8100 switch series.
Enhanced security is ensured by features that include MAC-based access control, Access Control Lists and TACACS+/RADIUS Authentication. The user friendly web interface also helps new users to configure the switch quickly and easily, while advanced users can also take advantage of an industry standard Command Line Interface (CLI) via console port or Telnet, providing a common user interface and command set for configuring the switch.
