LogicaCMG wins Next Generation Messaging contract with O2 Germany

LogicaCMG today announced that it has won a contract to migrate O2 Germany's short messaging services architecture to a complete IP-based Next Generation Messaging infrastructure. This infrastructure will provide O2 Germany with a stable, scalable platform for launching the latest short messaging services to its customers.

The end-to-end Next Generation Messaging solution creates a fully integrated, IP-based platform combining core components for centralised provisioning of services and subscribers, prepaid billing, business intelligence and reporting, and centralised performance management and alerts. It will enable O2 Germany to closely monitor the quality of service delivery to users and provide detailed data for measuring the success of its promotional campaigns. The solution will also speed time-to-market for new enhanced messaging offerings, including advanced personalisation, to O2 Germany's 8 million customers, whilst seamlessly extending the capacity of its existing infrastructure to support projected subscriber growth.

O2 Germany selected the LogicaCMG solution based on its ability to meet closely defined technical requirements, particularly in relation to scalability and redundancy, and its ability to integrate with the existing network. The IP-based platform provides a cost-effective, future proof infrastructure that will scale to meet increasing traffic demands as well as integrate with other messaging delivery engines.

Wolfgang Krüger, Vice President Network Product Engineering at O2 Germany, said: "The demand for new messaging services is continuing to grow at a tremendous pace, and meeting this demand with consistently high quality is vital for O2 Germany. Migrating to LogicaCMG's IP-based SMS architecture ensures that we are building a network that will anticipate our customers' needs, whilst enabling us to protect our existing infrastructure investments. LogicaCMG has a proven history of expertise in delivering stable, robust solutions that are capable of supporting several million messages per day."

Chris McDermott Chief Executive at Global Telecoms, LogicaCMG, said: "Operators face the difficult task of achieving major cost-savings while at the same time introducing new, innovative services around mobile media, enhanced voice messaging and video. Migrating to IP will give O2 Germany a stable, scalable platform for launching these latest services, as well as capacity for growth in the future. Having deployed the world's first all-IP messaging solution and migrated more than 50 operators worldwide to IP infrastructures, LogicaCMG is well placed to provide O2 Germany with Next Generation telecoms services."

LogicaCMG's complete messaging solution consists of an integrated, open standards-based framework for mobile data services that offers distributed message delivery and centralised control. For O2 Germany, this platform includes LogicaCMG's Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC), Central Management System (CMS), Central Directory Server (CDS), Business Tools suite and Generic Billing Gateway (GBG) as well as an SS7 access gateway.
