Ericsson and TeliaSonera in joint trial of Mobile@Home
Ericsson and TeliaSonera will conduct a joint trial of Mobile@Home, Ericsson's solution for Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), which permits the use of one single handset for both mobile and fixed telephony.
Mobile@Home turns mobile phones into IP phones in the home, using the fixed broadband network to connect calls. As soon as the user leaves home, the phone automatically and seamlessly switches to the mobile network. Consumers can then benefit from the higher data speeds and better coverage at home, while maintaining the convenience of their mobile phones.
Ericsson's Mobile@Home solution is a completely converged mobile and IP-based telephony solution. The trial with TeliaSonera will include technical tests of the Ericsson UMA system, connected to TeliaSonera's network in Sweden.
Håkan Dahlström, Group Vice President Networks and Technology, TeliaSonera says: "As a leader in the migration from fixed to mobile and internet-based services, we are committed to providing our customers with solutions that are easy to use. We believe that the UMA concept will be an important part of our future offerings since UMA combines the flexibility of mobile service with the higher data speeds of broadband and the convenience of one handset."
Johan Wibergh, head of Ericsson's Market Unit Nordic & Baltics, says: "Ericsson shares TeliaSonera's vision of converged networks and services. Mobile@Home is a great example of how we can help operators realize that vision, and a good illustration of how Ericsson can combine its strengths in fixed and mobile networks."
