European Communications is hosting a half-day, thought leadership seminar on telcos and the digital/OTT content space.

The free to attend event, held in London, will bring together a range of industry speakers to discuss the latest approaches that operators are taking as they partner and compete with digital content providers such as Amazon, Google and Netflix.

Speakers will outline what is happening in the marketplace today and what the industry needs to be aware of in the future.

Perfecting the mobile viewing experience - with software defined video, including cloud-based workflows, mobile network operators are able to innovate and deliver video experiences that engage with their subscribers. In this session, Mark will talk about current and upcoming technology for delivering premium OTT video, personalized ads, and VR for mobile devices.

Katie Hollier, Head of Digital Marketing, Telefonica

Katie has experience in telco, start-ups and FMCG. She started her career in sales with Procter & Gamble and then worked for 3 successful start-ups. Her passion is for creating services for the benefit of consumers and businesses. She has been with O2 for 9 years and is part of O2’s digital team responsible for new products.


Paul Morrissey, Global Ambassador, Innovation, Big Data Analytics and Customer Experience, TM Forum

Paul is a Veteran, Technology, Big Data Analytics, Customer Experience and Innovation Entrepreneur, he has created, enabled and successfully sold, floated or merged a series of International Telecommunications, Financial Services, Entertainment, Insurance, Technology Operations, Software and Consultancy practices and continues to invest in early stage technology business through his Private Equity fund Livewire Capital Partners.

He is a recognised International Business leader and expert on Big Data Analytics, Customer Experience, Digital Transformation, Data Forensics, Smart Cities, IoT and Media Content distribution.

Specialties: Paul is the Global Ambassador for the ™ Forum with responsibility for Big Data Analytics and Customer Experience Management he is also currently the Head of the Data Analytics & Cx Group at TM Forum. Paul authored the Global Standard for Customer Experience in 2014 the CEMI. He also sits on the ‘Smart Cities’, ‘IoT’ and ‘5G’ working groups for TM Forum. In 2010 he was awarded a Professorship by the School of Mathematics and Computing at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK for work surrounding Innovation in University technology spin-out companies. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a sought after Global speaker on the International conference circuit.


Marc Smith, Editor, European Communications

Marc is a journalist and editor with over 10 years ’ experience in a wide variety of business sectors. Since helping to re-launch European Communications in 2011, he has specialised in the strategic direction of the telecoms industry, looking at how European telcos need to change if they are to prosper in this challenging yet exciting sector. He also oversees European Communications’ sister title, Mobile Europe.


Carlos Villanueva, Head of Market Intelligence at BICS

Carlos is the Head of Market Intelligence at BICS with a strong focus on Digital Service Providers, Cloud and Communications Service Providers. He is passionate about innovation, marketing strategy and business development, and in addition to his telecom experience, he previously advised different startups and digital media organizations in Latin America. At BICS, he is using his in-depth knowledge of the telco and the digitalization of vertical industries to understand and anticipate customers’ needs and challenges as the industry is undergoing incremental change.

Carlos is a communications engineer with postgraduate degrees in Business Administration from IE Business School (ranked #1 in Europe) and Innovation and Change Management from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico UNAM.


Mark Horchler, Senior Marketing Manager – EMEA, Elemental Technologies

Mark Horchler has over 15 years of business experience within the IT, telecommunications, and broadcast industries. As Senior International Marketing Manager he is responsible for implementing Elemental’s marketing and communications strategy for software-defined video solutions across the EMEA region.

Prior to joining Elemental, Mark held product marketing and corporate communications roles at Anevia, ATEME, Nortel Networks and IBM. With a lifelong passion for the arts, Mark was also the cofounder of a video publisher and film distribution company based in Paris. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University, Boston.
