European Communications has unveiled its third annual big data survey as it looks to ascertain how the industry is progressing in this key area.

Read on for more information on our third annual big data survey.

Last year, nearly two-thirds of respondents said the telcos had made steady progress but 44 percent of operators said big data was not yet a strategic goal in their organisation.

The industry remained convinced that creating new revenues, such as selling data to third parties, was the biggest opportunity that big data presents operators with.

However, beyond Telefónica’s Smart Steps programme – launched 18 months ago – there has been precious little evidence that operators are able to execute on this goal.

Other areas of focus for operators include finding the right staff, defining a set of business objectives around big data and knowing which data to extract for maximum value.

These topics are all covered in our survey, the results of which will appear in the Q2 issue of European Communications as part of a big data special report. We will also be hosting a free to attend seminar in London on 29 May.
